Parramatta Park heats up with summer of red hot acts

Parramatta is set to sizzle with performances by global hip-hop queen Nicki Minaj, heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne and Sydney Symphony Orchestra due to take place in Parramatta Park.
They are coming to Western Sydney to take part in the Crescent Summer Series, a series of concerts and events presented by Parramatta Park that runs until March.
There are six events still to take place in the series, following on from Good Things Festival, the rain-affected Carols in the Crescent with Guy Sebastian and New Year’s Eve in Parramatta Park.
On 12 January the Park will host the hugely successful FOMO, this year headlined by superstar Nicki Minaj and a line-up of heavyweight urban music acts.
A week later, Sydney Symphony Under the Stars returns to Parramatta on 19 January, continuing a thirteen-year tradition. The much-loved free concert is co-presented by Sydney Festival and Sydney Symphony Orchestra and has become a signature Crescent Summer Series highlight. Last year’s audiences doubled from 7,000 to 14,000 and included a large number of first-time attendees from suburbs across Sydney.
The entire Park becomes the venue for City of Parramatta’s annual Australia Day celebrations, which will this year see around 80,000 people throughout the day to enjoy a special welcome ceremony with more than 500 Aboriginal children and dancers, the largest ever Australia Day citizenship ceremony, classic cars, fireworks and a great line-up of Aussie musicians.
Tropfest, held on 9 February, celebrates its third year in the Parramatta. The world’s largest short film festival is held in the Crescent and event organisers are expecting the strongest attendance by Western Sydney locals so far.
After EDM giant Ultra Australia on 24 February, Download will round off this year’s festival season on 9 March with a dream-come-true line-up for Sydney metal-heads. The Godfather of heavy metal, Ozzy Osbourne headlines the concert alongside Slayer, Judas Priest and Alice in Chains.
“The quality of this year’s concerts demonstrate that Paramatta Park is one of Sydney’s most-desirable outdoor major event venues,” Suellen Fitzgerald, Executive Director of Parramatta Park and Western Sydney Parklands Trusts said.
“The beautiful green surrounds of the Park, only twenty-five minutes by train from Central Station, have been pulling large audiences to major events for decades,” Ms Fitzgerald said.
“We are now seeing a new generation of concert-goers coming through and enjoying the mixture of international headliner acts alongside the five free events for people of all ages we’ve included in this year’s Crescent Summer Series.”

About Parramatta Park
Parramatta Park is one of the oldest public parks in the world and welcomes more than two million visitors every year. There is evidence of more than 20,000 years of Aboriginal occupation and land use and it was a Vice-Regal domain from 1788. In 1858 it was gazetted a ‘People’s Park’, one of the earliest in the world.
The Park’s rich and unique history was recognised in 2010 when it was inscribed onto the UNESCO World Heritage List as one of eleven Australian sites forming the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage property.
