Picnic and Play
Parramatta Park is an idyllic location and a beautiful place to gather with family and friends for a picnic, with several picnic shelters, barbecues, amenities and playgrounds available. Find all about the various areas of the Park in our section Places to go.
Some of our shelters are available for hire for more information on these shelters, availability, booking terms and fees, please see Book an Area.
Our new inclusive playground, in the historic Gardens Precinct near the George Street Gatehouse, is ideal for children and toddlers. It features the very latest in innovative playground equipment as well as traditional favourites like swings and a carousel which kids with varied mobility, including wheelchair users, can enjoy. The centre piece is an ‘explorer dome’ – a huge maze made of nets, ropes, ladders and tubes that older children can climb and balance on. ‘Softfall’ pavements cover the playground floor and there’s plenty of seats for parents and carers.
Pavilion Flat Playground
Located close to the pedestrian entry at the George Street Gatehouse, this small playground is ideal for younger children. The playground is in a picturesque setting and features swings, spring rockers, a play-boat for make-believe sailing expeditions and more.
Domain Creek Playground
Opened in 2015 and located on the Westmead side of the Park opposite the Queens Road Gatehouse, this playground is suitable for all ages with a flying fox, slides, swings, trampolines, water pump, sand diggers and more. Spread out over a large area, there’s plenty of room to run around and explore!
