The People of Parra Park
A memorable part of my teenage years
I first attended the King's School as a 12-year-old in 1956 and boarded in Thomas House, on the western edge of Parramatta Park for two years. We had to walk daily to and from the school on the eastern side of the Park. In 1956, there was very heavy rain for an extended period and the weir we normally crossed, which was below the Female Factory, was cut. We had to walk to school for some weeks, often in heavy rain, via Old Government House, until the water level dropped sufficiently to enable us to cross the weir again. My other memory was playing rugby and cricket on the various fields on the western side of the park in the late 1950s, and of course, watching and playing rugby and cricket on the Old King's Oval in the Park. A memorable part of my teenage years...
